Poland, NATO Launch Large Military Exercises
The Polish Armed Forces are also mobilizing over 600 tanks, aircraft, and missile systems for the exercises.
The maneuvers, called "Iron Gate," are being conducted at a training area in Orzysz, situated just 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the strategic Suwalki Gap—a narrow corridor of land near the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.
These drills are reportedly designed to showcase alliance solidarity amid escalating tensions with Russia.
They come shortly after Russia concluded its joint military exercises with Belarus, Zapad-2025, which ran from September 12 just across the border.
The exercises also follow a recent suspected Russian drone intrusion in the area.
Last week, Poland reported that at least 19 drones entered its airspace during Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Russia, however, denied that the incursion was intentional.
